CONGRATULATIONS!!! At the recent Division Fall meeting, the following South Central Region patrollers received Division recognition:

Today's Refresher Thursday post is about anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a severe reaction and illness to an allergen. Reactions may include signs/symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, neausea, vomiting, and anxiety. One of the most important things to do in these scenarios is to remove the allergen. Intramuscular epinephrine should be used to treat patients exhibiting anaphylaxis. Administer epinephrine and monitor patients for 10 minutes. If condition does not improve, an additional dose of epinephrine may be administered. A helpful line to remember when using an EpiPen is ""Blue to the sky, orange to the thigh,"" referring to the two colored ends on the EpiPen.

Today's Refresher Thursday post is about treatment of burns. Despite working in colder temperatures, ski patrollers should be informed of how to treat burns as they may arise from UV exposure, chemicals, friction, electricity, and more. The most important thing to remember when approaching these scenarios is scene safety, especially if the source is chemical or electrical. Stop the burn: remove the source as well as any clothing the patient has on that contains the source. Cool the burn with cool water and cover with a dry, non-adhesive bandage. However, if the burn is from a chemical source, do not use water.

Today's Refresher Thursday post is about non-traumatic abdominal pain. There are many causes of abdominal pain due to the many contents in the abdominal cavity. So, how do you approach these situations? It's important to remember that you cannot diagnose and thus may not be able to treat abdominal pain. The most important thing to do in these situations is to contact EMS early on. Assess the patient's ABCs, obtain patient history, and locate the pain. At this point, EMS can take over and transport the patient.
